The famous 500-year-old banyan tree here, covering an area of over three
acres, can accommodate about 1000 people in its shade. people gather
here for picnics and celebrations. The shrine of a Muslim saint is found
under this tree.
Alampur,
on the bank of the Tungabhadra river, has numerous antiquities belonging
to the Chalukyan period. The plan and carvings of the two groups of
brahmeswara and Papanatha temple here, closely resemble the rockcut
temple of Western India.
