This famous temple
of the Kakatiya period is situated on a hillock between Warangal and
Hanamkonda. The 2.7 m tall stone image of the deity is the main attraction
here.
This star-shaped temple
dedicated to shiva, Vishnu and Surya ia a fine specimen of kakatiya architecture
and sculpture. Perched on the slopes of Hanumakonda hill, the temple
is famous for its richly carved pillars, beautiful sculpture ans a huge
granite nandi - splendidly carved monolith six feet in height.
This large sanctuary,
of 812 sq km of dry deciduous mixed forests, is home to tiger, leopard,
sloth bear, chousingha, black buck and many kinds of birds. The sanctuary
is locatednear the Maharashtra, Madhya Pradeshand Andhra border.
Set around the shores
of Pakhal Lake, at an average altitude of 275 metres this sanctuary is
home to tiger, leopard, panther, wild dog, sambhar and other wildlife.
It has wild variety of jungle birds and several water birds spend the
winter here.

The
temple is rich in beautiful sculpture and carvings depicting scenes from
the Hindu epics. these exquisitely carved sculptures are a mixture of
the Kakatiya, Chalukya and Hoysala school of architecture.
