Place of Iinterest in Bagalkot District

Avalli known for its temple built between the 6th and 8th centuries. It was the capital of the Chalukyas betweren the 4th and the 7th centuries ans symbolises Hindu temple architecher in its formative years.

Once the capital of Chalukyan Empire, Badami is noted for its rock-cut cave temples.

One of the most ancient shrines in Karnataka, this temple attracts thousand of devotees. The Harishchandra Theertha - a large sacred pool in front of the temple is a fine example of Chalukyan architecture.

This town has several monuments in the Kalyana Chalukya style. The Aretthina Bhavi, a beautiful stone well and the Siddeshwara temple with its large bathing pond are worth visiting. The Hazrath Hassan Dargah here is a favourite amoung both Hindus and Muslims.

An important commercial centre, this town is famous for its hand-woven IIkal sarees and variety of red granite. The Venkateshwara and Shankarlinga temples and the Vijaya Mahanthesha Math also draw many visitors.

Jamkhandi

The Patwardhan palace, a huge Indo-Saracenic structure is surely worth visiting. The Ramatheertha nearby, is a beautiful pound with a shrine.

Kudala Sangama (38 km)

Located at the confluence of the rivers Krishna and laprabhu, Kudala Sangama is an important pilgrim centre.

Lokapur

Many beautiful temples constructed in theRashtrakuta style can be found here. Amoung these, the Lokeshwara temple is the most ancient.

Mahakoota

The Mahakooteshwara temple here is set amidst a huge forest, with a courtyard containing 15 small temples with intricate sculptures. The temple has to be approached by wading through water.

Siddanakolla

This rocky ravine has a beautiful waterfall that cascades from a height of 20 ft. At the base is the ancient Sangameshwara temple, where prayers are offered even now.
