An ancient capital
before the advent of the Vijayanagara Empire, Anegundi is believed
to be a part of the mythical kingdom of Kishkinda in Ramayana.
It is also considered to be the birth place of Hanuman.The place of intrest
here are Pampa Sarovara, Durga Devi Temple, Nava Brindhavana, Huchhappaiana
Mutt and Chintamani Mutt.
Once the flourishing capital of the Vijayanagar empire, Hampi was abundant
in wealth, military prowess, aesthetic sensibilities and culture. It
was visited by travellers from Italy and Arabia during the 5th century.
Today, its ruins spread over an area of 26 sq.km. The pampati Swami
Temple the queen's bath, Lotus Mahal, the king's balance and the musical
pillars of the Vittala temple envoke memories of bygone Splendour.
Founded by Krishnadevaraya,
this town was a gate way of entry into the city of Vijayanagar. There
is a picturesque temple of Jambhunatha, on a hill nearby.
