The fort

The fort and its moat, the Parashurama temple and Kali shrine are the other place of intrest, well worth visiting.

Ishwara Temple

Once in Hiremagalur,it is now part of the Chikmagalur town. The 1.22 meter high idol was installed by King Janamejaya during his serpent sacrifice.

St.Joseph's Cathedral

St.Joseph's Cathedral is newly built and has an attractive shell-shaped portico.

Kodandarama Temple

This temple is a synthesis of Hoysala and Dravidian style of architecher.

Amrithapura (67 km)

This town for the splendid Amriteshwara temple built in 1196 AD by Amriteshwara Dandanayaka, a general of the Hoysala ruler ballala ll. The temple is designed in a delicate, exquisite and intricate style.

Ayyanakere (18 km)

Located at the estern base of the Baba - Budan range, this ancient tank was constructed by Rukmangada raya, a chiet of Sakrepatna and renovated later in 1156 AD during the Hoysala time. The tank now provides irrigation facility to more than 1,500 Hectares of land.

Ballalarayana Durga

The ancient ruins of the hoysala fort is located on top mof a hill. One can have a spectacular view of the Western Ghats from the ramparts of this ancient fort.

Balehonnur (45 km)

Located on the banks of river Bhadra, the famous Veerashiva Mutt and the Veerabhadar Temple are are the main attraction here.

Belavadi (25 km)

A land of rich historical reference, this ancient village is dotted with temples and shrines. The most outstanding among these is the Veeranarayana temple a fine specimen of hoysala architecher.

Bhadra Reservoir (76 km)

20 km from Bhadravati town, the Bhadra reservior is a massive irrigation project with a wholesome varity of wildlife around it. There is scope for water sports as well.

Devanur (35 km)

It is famous for the 17th century Lakshmikantha temple and the 13th century Siddeshwara temple.

Horanadu (100 km)

A place of enchanting nature scenery, the ancient temple of Annapoorneshwari here has been restored and renamed as the Adi - Shaktyatmaka Shri Annapoorneshwari.

Kalasa (92 km)

This ancient Agrahara settlement on the bank of the river Bhadra, is surrounded by lofty hills of the Western Ghats and is looked upon as one of the Panchakshetras. The Pancha Theerthas - five sacred ponds and the Kalaseshwara Temple can also be found here.

Khanddya (43 km)

Situated on the bank of the river Bhadra, Khandya is one of the pancha- kshetras (five sacred places).

Marle (12 km)

A place of antiquity, Marle is known for its ancient temples. Most famous among them is the Chennakeshva temple dating back to 1150 AD.

Somapura

Situated on the bank of the river Bhadra, Somapura is also one of the panchakshetras.

Sringeri (130 km)

This well-known pilgrim centre is situated on the bank of the Tunga River. The Sringeri Mutt here, was founded by Sri Adi Shankara, the exponent of the Advaitaphilosophy. In the Vidya Shankara Shrine, there are 12 Zodiac pillars, which are so constructed that the rays of the sun fall on the pillar corresponding to the month.

Thuruvanahalli (44 km)

A cave associated with Nirvanaswami is located here.
