The Portuguese who arravied on the shores of Mangalore
in the 15th Century,Brought with them trading and the Roman Catholic
religion, which took root and grew in to many splendid churches here.

Built by the Arab saint Malik Deenar, this fine mosque
in the Bunder area has wooden pillars and pulpit with exquisite carvings.
Located on the Kadri hill, this 11th century temple is
surrounded by tanks with natural springs and laterite caves, also known
as the Pandava Caves. The annual Kadri Kambala (buffalo Race) takes place
here in December.

Many objects of art, archaeology, ethnology and nature
history can be found here.
Situated on the outskirts of the town, this watchtower,
built of rough blocks of laterite, is the last remaining bastion of Tipu
Sultan's fort. It was built by him to block the entry of British warships
through the Gurpur River.
A picturesque seaside village situated at the mouth of
two rivers entering the sea. This beach resort has well furnished cottages,
and is an ideal weekend getaway from the city. Nearby is the equally
lovely Someshwar beach. The Somanatha temple with its italian influence
and the Dargah of Syed Mohammed Shereeful Madani are the other attraction
here.
Located
on a scenic spot on the bank of the river Seerehole, the water here
is belived to have the power to cure all skin disease.

A popular Pilgrim centre with the famed ancient temple
of Subrahmanya.
The Jamalabad fort here was built in 1794 by Tipu Sultan,
to honour his mother Jamalbee.
Located on anisland in Nandini river, the durga Parameshwari
Temple here has a naturally formed linga and pillars with beautiful Sculptures.
Comprising of the Bhatta Rashi, Siddha and Shesha and
Shesha hills,This area is a trekker's delight, attracting a large number
of adventure lovers in summer. The best time to visit is March - May.
A famous cattle fair is held here on a full moon day,
and last for 15 days, attracting buyersand sellers from the surrounding
areas and Kerala. The ancient Basaveshwara Temple is also located here.

An integrated park for tourists, this 300 acre wide
park has a lake with boating facilities, a wildlife safari, a mini aquarium
and science centre.
At the confluence of the Netravati
and the Kumaradhara rivers, is the Sahasra linga, the Thousand Linga
Temple. During the "Makhi"
fair here, thousands come to make offerings to their ancestors.
